Marcus James

Born in 1973, Marcus James was raised in the West Country by artistic parents. Marcus moved to London in 1993 and Graduated from Central Saint Martins.

He then went on to receive an MA from the Royal College of Art, where he studied life drawing and anatomy in the morgue at the University Hospital.

These studies were the basis for an exhibition and book called ‘The Anatomy Room, The Drawing Studio, and The Beach’ for which won the Sheila Robinson Prize for Drawing.

On leaving the RCA Marcus worked on fashion collaborations with Alexander Mcqueen, Camilla Staerk, Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Stella Mccartney. In 2015 Marcus switched discipline and started his practise as a fine artist. The first year was spent drawing and walking in the Peaks of England, Wales and Scotland, resulting in an exhibition of drawings at 10 Hanover Gallery, Mayfair.

Marcus has since then, has also shown at Pangolin Gallery and Protein Gallery. His current work has continued this theme of exploring specific natural and cultural phenomena, and our relationship to the environment
