Since moving to the South East he has retained his London links, including
a one man show in Belgravia in 2014 and the sale of a large diptych to the
V&A Museum of Childhood in 2017.

Most recently though he has exhibited in Rye, East Sussex making several
works for the Antiques Dealer Alex Macarthur. These site specific pieces
have been shown in her 14 th Century renovated former Monastery which
now houses her collection.
The work he is probably best known for to date is the monumental work
‘History Painting’ (93/4) which is an integral part of the Museum of
London’s permanent collection. This was featured in the book ‘London in
the Company of Painters’ published by Laurence King last year.
In 2012/13 the Guildhall Art Gallery London held a mid career
retrospective of his work featuring over fifty of his paintings.

Notable private collectors include Nicholas Penny (former Director of the
National Gallery) and Andrew Wilton (former keeper of the British
Collection at the Tate).
John’s present work oscillates between representation and abstraction.
Never completely comfortable with a realist stance the illusionist qualities
he presents are deconstructed and interfered with by a layered mix of art
styles. Traditional genres are revisited but appropriated for a
contemporary audience.
